How you can use this website

This website is run by Natural Resources Wales. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Make your device easier to use

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible, for example:

  • visually grouped fields are not contained within a fieldset
  • related link elements aren’t grouped appropriately
  • autocomplete functionality is not available on expected input fields
  • a ‘Skip to Main Content’ link is not present
  • links within paragraphs of text are not sufficiently visible
  • text descriptions are not provided for some errors on input fields and colour is solely used to communicate errors
  • text does not meet sufficient contrast requirements
  • the tabbing order of the website may not always be logical
  • page titles are not adequately descriptive
  • mandatory fields do not show a text error which indicates the field has an error

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • A valid autocomplete attribute is not present, and fields cannot be programmatically determined. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose. We plan to resolve this by: January 2025.

  • Errors on input fields are communicated only by colour. This may be difficult to understand for users with visual impairments or colour blindness. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.1 Use of Colour. We plan to resolve this by: January 2025.

  • Links within paragraphs of text are not sufficiently differentiated and may be less visible to users with visual impairments. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.1 Use of Colour. We plan to resolve this by: January 2025.

  • Text does not meet sufficient contrast requirements against the page background. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum). We plan to resolve this by: January 2025.

  • Rendering issues are present with text when zooming text only to 200% using browser zoom controls. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.4 Resize Text. We plan to resolve this by: January 2025.

  • Some non-textual content lacks contrast against the background page. This includes the slider elements on the cookies section. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.11 Non-Text Contrast. We plan to resolve this by: January 2025.

  • A ‘Skip to Main Content’ link or similar is not present within the site to allow keyboard and assistive technology users to bypass repeated navigational components across the site. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks. We plan to resolve this by: January 2025.

  • The focus order of the page is not logical. Users who rely on a keyboard access for operating a page benefit from a logical, usable focus order. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.3 Focus Order. We plan to resolve this by: January 2025.

  • The focus order of the page is not logical when using a mobile screen reader. This involves focusing links or text which are located after input fields before those input fields. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.3 Focus Order. We plan to resolve this by: January 2025.

  • Required fields do not have a text error which indicates the field has an error. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 3.3.1 Error Identification. We plan to resolve this by: January 2025.

  • Page titles across the Sign Up/Sign In process are not sufficiently descriptive or informative which may cause navigation issues between tabs. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.2 Page Titled. We plan to resolve this by: January 2025.

  • The cookies button is inaccessible using known commands when navigating with Dragon Naturally Speaking (speech recognition software). This may result in some users being unable to access this content. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value. We plan to resolve this by: January 2025.

  • Heading elements announce incorrectly when navigating the page using iOS VoiceOver (a mobile screen reader). This may result in some users being unable to access this content. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value. We plan to resolve this by: January 2025.
