Our culture and values
At Natural Resources Wales, our values guide everything we do.
We are committed to creating an inclusive, fair and respectful workplace that reflects the communities we serve.
Equality, diversity and inclusion
We are passionate about making equality and diversity a top priority in everything we do.
We promote equality of opportunity, giving everyone the chance to achieve their potential.
We are determined to make our organisation as diverse as the environment.
Our inclusive culture promotes well-being and good mental health. We provide support and a safe environment to enable all our staff to thrive physically, mentally and neurologically.
The Welsh language
As a public organisation here in Wales, we take pride in our bilingual identity.
We are committed to delivering our services in both Welsh and English. We offer everyone the choice of which language they wish to use when interacting with us.
We want you to feel comfortable about using Welsh in your work, whether you are a fluent speaker or a learner with tipyn bach o Gymraeg (a little bit of Welsh).
We recognise Welsh as a valuable skill. Our Welsh language training programme can support you to learn the language or improve your Welsh.
Find out more about the Welsh Language Standards which ensure that we consider Welsh in everything we do.
Our staff networks
Our staff networks contribute to the development of our policies and working practices.
They also provide opportunities for social interaction, peer support and personal development.
Our staff networks include carers, LGBTQ+ staff, ethnic diversity and mental health.
Trade unions
At Natural Resources Wales, we work in partnership with trade union colleagues for our mutual benefit.
You can choose to join one of the recognised trade unions at any time while you are working here.
Volunteering leave
Volunteering contributes to the quality of life in local communities. It can also benefit your personal learning and development.
All our staff can apply for two days of volunteering leave each year.
Armed Forces Covenant
We recognise the contribution that service personnel, both regular and reservist, veterans and military families make to our organisation, our community and to the country.
We have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and will endeavour to uphold its key principles that:
- members of the armed forces community should not face disadvantages arising from their service in the provision of public and commercial services.
- special provision may be justified in some circumstances, especially for those who have given the most such as the injured or bereaved.
We will seek to uphold the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant by:
- offering additional days of annual leave (paid or unpaid) to reservists and Cadet Force adult volunteers to carry out their duties or training.
- offering work placements, insight days and mentoring schemes to veterans seeking employment.
- supporting the employment of service spouses, partners and dependants.
- promoting employment schemes aimed at the armed forces community.
- engaging with the Career Transition Partnership.
- considering ways in which remote-working solutions might benefit the mobile armed forces community, especially partners and spouses.
- establishing an armed forces staff network.
- appointing an armed forces champion.
