Planning applications for Developments of National Significance are examined by the Planning Inspectorate who also make a recommendation to Welsh Ministers, who in turn decide whether or not to grant permission for the scheme. We are a ‘specialist consultee’ in the processes for determining Developments of National Significance.

We are a statutory consultee in the planning system. As part of this role we advise on the potential impacts of development proposals and planning policies on Wales’ natural resources and environment.
