Change a species licence
From 1 October, we will no longer accept the old species licence amendment form. Use the new species licence change form instead.
Use this service to change an existing species licence.
You can use this service to:
- update the names or addresses of people on the licence
- add or remove people from a licence
- change the lead licensee or nominated ecologist
- add species
- add techniques or equipment
- change the licence period
- request other changes
When not to use this service
You cannot use this service if the only change is to a:
- phone number
- email address
To update a phone number or email address, contact the species permitting team.
If your survey licence has expired, you must apply to renew your licence.
Before you start
You will need:
- the licence number
- the name of the lead licensee
Depending on the changes you want to make, you may need to provide:
- an end of licence report
- an updated method statement if the methods or timetable have changed

Apply online
How long it takes
You can expect:
- changes to people named on the licence, including name and address changes, take up to 15 working days
- all other changes take up to 30 working days
If we need more information, it may take longer.
Charges
- Changes to people named on the licence or personal details: £82
- All other changes: £125 per hour
Some licences are exempt from charges. You will be asked questions during the application to check whether a charge applies.
