Prepare a method statement for a band 1 marine licence application

You will need to provide a method statement if your proposed works are any of the following:

• boreholes or vibrocores
• replacement piles
• beach management
• within a sensitive area

Consult organisations early

Before you write your method statement, consult relevant organisations. You can discuss any issues and potential solutions before you begin work on your application.

What to include in a method statement

Your method statement should include:

• a description of the activity
• the steps you will carry out to complete it
• how long the activity will last
• details of any vehicle or vessel routes you will use to access the site
• details of any material you will remove
• details of any material you will deposit
• measures you will take to minimise risk to the marine environment
• measures you will take to prevent undue interference to others
• measures you will take to maintain navigational safety, including how you will mark and light the work
  
  

Replacement piles and boreholes or vibrocores

Method statements for these activities must also include:

• the pile diameter
• the number of boreholes or vibrocores
• predicted source noise levels
• the exact proposed location, if known

This allows us to assess the noise impact of the works in combination with other potential works nearby.

Beach management

A beach management method statement must also state:

• the volume/tonnage of material you expect to move
• the locations where you will move material to and from
