Complete a year 5 forest management plan review
Complete and submit a review form to extend your forest management plan for another 5 years of operations (years 5 to 10 from the date of original approval).
When to submit your review
Send us your review 6 to 12 months before your plan reaches its expiry date. You can find this date in your land management agreement.
How to carry out your plan review
Complete a year 5 review form and email it to the address on the form. We will ask you to provide:
- the actions you have carried out over the last 5 years to work towards your long-term objectives
- an update on your delivered work programme, including reasons for any divergence or changes to your work programme
- an update of any other conditions in your plan, for example based on monitoring work you have undertaken

If you want to change your work programme for years 5 to 10
To revise your work programme for years 5 to 10 you will also need to send us:
- an updated work programme
- updated maps
Depending on the nature of your changes, further regulatory checks may be needed by us and your work programme may need to go back on the public register.
Site visits
We may ask for a site meeting. Where possible we will give you reasonable notice.
You must let us, our officers and our authorised agents have access to your forest management unit at all reasonable times. Our inspectors carry written authorisation which they will present to you at your request.
Other permissions
Beyond the scope of your forest management plan, you will need to consider any other permits and permissions you have which may expire at a different time from your approved forest management plan, for example:
- EIA consent lasts for 5 years
- General Permitted Development Order consent from your local planning authority lasts for 5 years
Our decision
Our decision to extend regulatory approval is discretionary and is dependent on you demonstrating that your objectives, reported activities and measures of success in years 1 to 5 have been delivered to our satisfaction, in accordance with the UKFS and regulatory requirements.
For example, clear felling operations planned for the next 5 years may only be approved if existing coupes have been restocked within an appropriate time frame and risks or threats managed appropriately.
If we agree to extend your plan for a further 5 years, you will be able to consider technical amendments to help you manage the woodland based on the tolerance table in your land management agreement.
Year 10 review
Once your forest management plan reaches 10 years from the original date of approval, you will need to reapply for a new forest management plan for the following 5 to 10 years.
