The role
This is an exciting opportunity to be an important member of the Energy Delivery Team. The busy and dynamic team is responsible for the delivery of renewable energy or other commercial projects on the Welsh Government Woodland Estate. You will join a project team responsible for managing the interface between the development/construction of high-profile renewable energy projects and NRW’s land stewardship responsibilities.
You will provide project management support to Project Managers on large complex projects and project manage directly smaller, lower risk projects under the supervision of Project Managers. You will use Programme Management Office Workbooks and manage renewable energy project datasets. The role will need to work collaboratively with other Directorates, follow internal governance procedures, embedding SMNR and Wellbeing outcomes in energy project deliverables.
The role involves technical desk and site-based work on the WGWE in South & Mid Wales ensuring developers have considered the risks to people and environment and have planned the work, safety controls and working methods to ensure works are carried out in a safe, environmentally sustainable and legally compliant manner.
This role supports project and contract management spanning a range of technical disciplines including land management, forestry, environmental and engineering. A strong candidate will have relevant training, skills, experience and knowledge in one or more of these technical disciplines and experience of large scale renewable projects is desirable.
As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to an NRW office within the place base / location above and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

What you will do
- Take the lead on delivery of project products. This may involve managing external supply contracts, reviewing, analysing and interpreting complex data and presenting information to team colleagues.
- Under the supervision of Project Managers, manage smaller, less complex projects using PRINCE 2 Lite approach.
- Engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders in the delivery of project products.
- Support project managers in the delivery of all Project management responsibilities and deputise when required.
- Conduct site observations and surveying of active sites – provide quality assurance for lease/contract compliance and monitoring of Health and Safety and Pollution Incidents.
- Obtain internal and external specialist advice from Suppliers including environmental, legal, and engineering experts by providing clear and effective instructions.
- Provide specialist technical advice to PMs in a relevant discipline as required. (subject to levels of relevant expertise)
- Use the PRINCE2 Lite toolkit to manage all risks and issues associated with the Projects.
- Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills

Welsh language level requirements
- Essential: A1 - Entry level (able to use and understand simple, basic phrases and greetings, no conversational Welsh)
