Check waste stack separation distances and stack lengths
This is part of the fire prevention and mitigation plans guidance.

Use this service to check your waste stack separation distance and stack length.
Before you start
To check the minimum separation distance required, you need to know:
- if your waste type is general or plastic/rubber - general waste includes wastes such as Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF), wood and paper
- storage method, such as loose or baled stacks, and proximity to buildings
- length of your stack
You can also check stack length if, for example, separation distance is constrained by site size.
To check the maximum stack length you need to know:
- if your waste type is general or plastic/rubber - general waste includes wastes such as Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF), wood and paper
- storage method, such as loose or baled stacks, and proximity to buildings
- separation distance between your stacks
