Who can apply for a forest management plan

You can apply for a forest management plan if you:

• own the land the trees are growing on
• are a lessee and your lease entitles you to fell the trees
• can demonstrate you have a legal right to fell the trees

If you are an agent acting for the owner or lessee, you may apply to fell the trees. The felling permission accompanying your approved forest management plan will be issued in the name of the owner or the lessee of the land.

You can engage a professional forester to act as your agent.

Agents can help you prepare your application and can apply on your behalf with your permission. Suitable professionals include members, or associate members, from professional institutes such as: 

• Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF)
• Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
• Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM)
