Green books for Gwynedd libraries thanks to grant
Readers in Gwynedd will get the chance to learn about the climate emergency from their local library thanks to a grant.
Natural Resources Wales (NRW) has secured £2,500 from CILIP Cymru Wales’ Green Libraries Wales Small Grant Fund to provide a selection of books in both Welsh and English to Gwynedd libraries.
The books can also be ordered on request from library members in Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham.
The partnership with Cyngor Gwynedd Library Service will see contemporary books available to inform the public about the nature and climate emergencies, natural history and biodiversity and to empower people to make changes in their lives.
Kester Savage, NRW’s Advisor for Knowledge and Information, said:
“We are delighted to have been successful in the Green Libraries Grant application to fund this work. The project, Convenient Truth, will raise awareness of the climate and nature emergencies and inform the public how they can make a difference.
“Working with Cyngor Gwynedd Library Service means we can reach a wide audience and help promote reading and the use of local libraries.
“As part of the project we aim to work closely with schools and facilitate events in public libraries hosted by a variety of specialists, experts and community groups to facilitate vibrant discussion.”
Firms Wild Elements and Dynamic Dunescapes will be working to deliver the events in public libraries.
Councillor Nia Jeffreys, Cyngor Gwynedd’s Economy and Community Cabinet Member, said:
“As a Council we are delighted to work with Natural Resources Wales on this exciting project and the proposed Green Books Collection will be a valuable addition to the Cyngor Gwynedd Library Service book stock.
“It will enable both adults and children to access information on a wide variety of topics relating to the environment and climate change and how we can make differences in our thinking and actions that will benefit all of us.
“Information on forthcoming workshops later in spring will be promoted on our Gwynedd Libraries social media accounts, the Gwynedd Libraries events page and the Cyngor Gwynedd website.”
The books are expected to arrive in libraries in March.
