The role

As a Nuclear Project Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting Senior Advisors to coordinate and manage our involvement in the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process. This is the key process used by UK nuclear regulators, including the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) and the Environment Agency (EA), to evaluate new nuclear power station designs.

You will work closely with a wide range of stakeholders, including UK regulators, government departments, and applicants. Your responsibilities will include sharing vital information, maintaining accurate and comprehensive records, and representing NRW in meetings where appropriate, ensuring the smooth flow of communication and collaboration across multiple channels.

In addition, you will provide strategic advice to Governance and Sub-groups, contributing to informed decision-making at all levels. Your expertise will be integral to the Radioactivity and Industry Team, where you will undertake diverse and impactful work across the nuclear sector. You will work with colleagues to champion the sustainable management of natural resources, ensuring the long-term viability of the industry and its alignment with best practices.

As an organisation we support flexible working.  You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance

What you will do

 

  • Support the team in building effective working relationships and new ways of working with groups from across the organisation to achieve best delivery of corporate objectives.
  • Interpret data and observations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Support the identification and prioritisation of key work areas for Nuclear in line with priorities within our Corporate Plan, Business Plan and Regulatory Service Plan
    Advise the team on national projects to achieve well planned and managed integrated solutions that progress effective change and improvement in NRW and for business across Wales.
  • Support projects that develop, transform, and streamline regulatory processes, providing a better customer experience.
  • Apply continuous improvement methods to the work areas you undertake.
    Provide advice on the development, review and improvement to technical documentation, to enable consistent and appropriate understanding and application by staff in the business that enables effective service provision.
  • Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills

In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method.

1. Knowledge of Welsh, UK and EU legislation related to your specific sector(s); Welsh, UK government Policy drivers in your specific sector(s).

2. Degree level qualification in a relevant subject area or the equivalent level of knowledge.3. Experience in forming and maintaining close links with internal and external partners/stakeholders to deliver the outcomes of both a specific function/project/team and the wider organisation.

4. Effective communication skills to convey complex technical and regulatory issues to a wide range of audiences, using strong networking skills to influence, or help deliver outcomes through, partner/stakeholder organisations.

5. Experience of understanding and applying regulatory activities.

6. Be able to work at pace and have a track record of delivery.

7. Being innovative and demonstrating drive to achieve targets.

8. Expected to keep up to date with changing regulatory policy and proposed changes to legislation via membership of a relevant professional body or other equivalent means.

 

Welsh language level requirements

  • Essential: - Entry level (able to use and understand simple, basic phrases and greetings, no conversational Welsh)
