The role
Join our dynamic team in delivering a national service within the South East business structure, focusing on strategic work areas across Wales to tackle fly-tipping. As the Fly-Tipping Action Wales (FTAW) Senior Officer, you will lead on enforcement and intelligence-sharing project areas to ensure the success of our important work programme.
You will also carry out investigations and enforcement of fly-tipping incidents that occur on the Welsh Government Woodland Estate and other NRW managed assets. You will act as a mentor to other members of the FTAW team & provide support to our external stakeholders including the 22 Local Authorities & other land managers.
You will respond safely, timely and efficiently to environmental incidents and undertake appropriate investigation, surveillance and enforcement case work, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and taking forward proportionate enforcement action.
As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to an NRW office within the place base / location above and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

What you will do
- Act as technical mentor and advisor to team members.
- Provide expert guidance in relation to compliance with environmental and regulatory standards.
- Liaise with stakeholders and develop partnerships to deliver initiatives based on placed based and national requirements.
- Take lead on delivery of relevant areas of project delivery, including Wales-wide initiatives.
- Take appropriate actions to collect evidence for enforcement purposes, in accordance with defined procedures.
- Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills
In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method.
- Knowledge and experience of either working in the waste industry or as a regulator.
- Knowledge and experience of carrying out enforcement against environmental offences.
- Good understanding of commercial business processes and pressures.
- Ability to communicate effectively with regulated business and the public, explaining issues and gaining support by influencing.
Welsh language level requirements
- Essential: Level A1 – Entry level (able to use and understand simple, basic phrases and greetings, no conversational Welsh)
