Job Context

The post holder is responsible for the monthly reconciliations of major control accounts within NRW’s finance system to ensure effective governance and the integrity of our accounts. This role is an integral part of the wider control process within Finance which is paramount for the production of the interim and annual accounts.

Complete the monthly reconciliations of the payables and receivables ledger, payroll, bank, VAT and other control accounts (including the monthly TB reconciliation work) to strict timescales to ensure the integrity of our accounts is maintained and that robust controls are in place that will stand up to audit scrutiny. 

Complete the monthly Trial Balance reconciliation to timescales.

Investigate and resolve all issues identified with the reconciliations.

Undertake various tasks in relation to VAT, banking, fixed assets and general ledger. Ensure all records are accurately maintained and governance procedures are followed.

Under the direction of the Financial Accountant, undertake various tasks to support the work on the interim and annual accounts.   

Be a point of contact for Audit Wales (external auditors), HMRC, NRW banks on specific areas of work.

Ensure that NRW's banking and tax practices comply with external legislation and guidance as well as internal policies and procedures, ensuring that we have effective internal controls in place.  

Advocate compliance with our Financial Scheme of Delegation, identifying and then either resolving or referring issues to the specialists for resolution.

Key Job Qualifications or Knowledge:

  1. Experience working within Finance environment at a technical level.
  2. AAT or have equivalent relevant experience.
  3. Understanding about the potential of using the Finance systems and other software/applications to meet the requirements of this post.
  4. Knowledge and understanding of our Finance Scheme of Delegation with an ability to advise others.
