Unsettled weather brings risk of flooding

With unsettled weather forecast to continue this week, Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is asking people to be alert for the possibility of localised flooding.

Met office forecasts indicate that the next band of heavy rain is expected to reach south Wales from this evening, continuing throughout the day tomorrow.

The forecast remains unsettled for the rest of the week with further bands of heavy rain expected.

While the rainfall is likely to reach most parts of Wales, it is expected to be heaviest across south Wales.

In many places the ground will already be saturated from recent heavy rainfall, so further rain could find its way into rivers quickly leading to Flood Alerts being issued.

Blocked drains caused by fallen leaves are also likely to cause flooding of road surfaces, so people are advised to take extra care while travelling.

People are advised to keep an eye on weather forecasts, news reports and check for any Flood Alerts or Warnings in their area on this page.

People can also get the latest information for their area, and find out if free flood warnings are available to them, by phoning Floodline on 0345 988 1188.
