Keep Wales Tidy has revealed that a Green Flag Award, an international mark of quality park or green space is to be given to Garwnant Visitor Centre.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Green Flag Award scheme, which is delivered in Wales by Keep Wales Tidy with support from Welsh Government.

It is judged by green space experts, who volunteer their time to visit applicant sites and assess them against eight strict criteria.

Being awarded the Green Flag depends on how a park performs in areas including horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability and community involvement.

As well as rewarding the best parks and green spaces, Keep Wales Tidy also helps by driving up environmental standards across the country.

This year more parks and green spaces than ever will be flying the Green Flag in Wales with 161 recipients of the award.

Dai Rees, Local Area Manager for NRW, said:

“Looking after nature is a top priority for NRW and we do it for the environment, the economy and for people.

“Receiving the Green Flag Award is a great step in the right direction because it means we’re sticking to that priority and people are noticing it.

“I’d like to thank Keep Wales Tidy and everyone at Garwnant that helps make it such a quality attraction for our visitors and urge anyone who hasn’t been yet to come visit!”

Other recipients of the award this year include St Fagans Historic Gardens in Cardiff, Barry Island Promenade and Penllergare Valley Woods just outside Swansea.
