Waste site raided over illegal waste concerns

A waste facility in Blaenau Gwent, has been raided by Natural Resources Wales officers, in conjunction with Gwent Police, following concerns over illegal waste activity.
Officers used a warrant to search the premises after evidence was gathered that some activities at the site were breaching the conditions of its environmental permit.
A man was arrested during the raid and is currently in police custody.
Specialist Investigation Teams will now compile all the evidence and consider taking legal action against the company if necessary.
Jon Goldsworthy, Environment Manager from Natural Resources Wales said:
“We have a duty to investigate where we believe illegal waste activity may be taking place, and to make sure that all waste sites which we regulate are playing by the rules.
“Those acting illegally can undercut and undermine legitimate businesses and we will not hesitate to take the appropriate action against them.
“We place strict conditions in the permits we issue for a reason – to make sure that nearby communities and the local environment are protected."
