Carbon Positive Project

NRW becoming an exemplar in carbon management and sharing best practice for use across the public sector

The Carbon Positive Project is funded by Welsh Government to show leadership in how the public sector can reduce its carbon impact to tackle climate change.

The Project has taken an ambitious approach to understand our carbon impact and to identify opportunities to address it. We're taking positive steps to reduce our carbon emissions, and to enhance and protect carbon stored on the land we manage.

Through sharing our experiences we aim to encourage further decarbonisation in Wales.

Five key steps

The Carbon Positive Project is delivering a comprehensive approach to carbon management in five key steps

Calculating our net carbon status

We are accounting for both greenhouse gas emissions and carbon sequestration across the whole of our owned and managed estate

Evaluating mitigation options

We are identifying mitigation opportunities to reduce our carbon impact as an organisation

Demonstration projects

We are delivering projects to demonstrate mitigation measures

Embedding Carbon Positive in NRW

We will put in place a plan for future implementation of mitigation measures and embed carbon management across the organisation

Sharing our approach

We will help to disseminate best practice in carbon management across the Welsh public sector
